The Butt of Lewis

Despite its name, the Butt of Lewis is the northernmost point of the Lewis (one of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides islands).  Some of the oldest rocks in Europe are found here, formed over 3000 million years ago (that’s the Pre-Cambrian era) – that’s before complex life existed on Earth!

Just take another look at the picture above and think about that… I wonder what the Butt of Lewis will look like in another 3000 million years?
