Oyster Catcher

What would you say, if I were to ask you what this bird, the Oyster Catcher, predominantly caught in its beak to feed upon?

That’s right cockles and mussels.  I guess cockles catcher or mussels catcher just didn’t have the right ring to it?

Haematopus ostralegus, to give it its scientific name can be found around most of the UK’s coastline. They have a distinctive “cheep” call.

This particular bird was photographed in northern Scotland.
