  • Hamadryas Baboon

    Hamadryas Baboon

These Hamadryas Baboons are very social animals, living in harems with a single dominant male and several females. They enjoy a good preening session. These baboons are the most northerly species of baboon, living around the Red Sea.

  • The Guitarist

    The Guitarist

This guy was so engaged with the music he was creating that he had no idea I was stood nearby. It was taken a few years ago now, and whilst I can’t remember the tune he was playing, I can remember enjoying it. What did this image teach me? That I should’ve lowered the camera…

  • The Football

    The Football

Spotted this one just hanging around… I wonder what the story behind it is? What did this image teach me? Always keep your eyes open, you never know what you might see.

  • The Commando Memorial

    The Commando Memorial

The Commando Memorial stands on the edge of Spean Bridge, looking across to Ben Nevis, and was erected to commemorate the British Commando Forces who trained in the area during World War II. The statues took 2 years to sculpt (between 1949 and 1951), and the memorial itself was formally unveiled by the Queen Mother…

  • Dark & Red

    Dark & Red

Poppies come in all shapes, sizes, and colours – but I think the dark red ones, such as this, are my favourite. In Ancient Greece the poppy was associated with the god of sleep, Hynpos and the god of dreams, Morpheus.

  • Red-Crowned Crane

    Red-Crowned Crane

In Chinese mythology, these birds carry immortals between heaven and earth. Now, how cool is that? This taught me that rain really can add an element to an image, those ripples on the water really appeal to me.

  • Miss Scarlet

    Miss Scarlet

This is a Scarlet Ibis, one of my favourite birds to photograph… I mean, just look at that colour! The fossil record shows that the Ibis as a species existed at least 60 million years ago!

  • Up On The Roof

    Up On The Roof

It may have been dull, it may have been raining – but I’m still pleased with how this image turned out. This image taught me to keep shooting, even if the conditions aren’t perfect (or perhaps especially when the conditions aren’t perfect).

  • Wearing The Crown

    Wearing The Crown

This is a Crowned Crane – and would you just look at that hairstyle! Unlike other cranes, Crowned Cranes nest in trees (thank you, Google).
