March of the Wooden Elephants

One of the many advantages to travelling is that you get to see things that you just wouldn’t find at home.  These unique wooden elephants, each one different to the last, were lined up on the pavement in the heart of Stellenbosch, South Africa, as if they were a migrating herd out in the wilderness.  Each sculpture stood no more than a foot high.

The march included dozens of elephants, as well as rhinos, hippos, and other African creatures.  It was a very eye catching sight.
