Plant Bones

Taken against the backdrop of a cold and foggy pond, this image shows what I like to think of as plant bones – those hardy stems that survive even the coldest of winters.

I believe this plant is a member of the Umbelliferae family, although exactly which one I don’t know.

I elected to shoot this one in black and white, partly because I enjoy monochromatic photography, but also because of the lighting conditions.  With the bright pond in the background, the stems of the plant were always going to be in silhouette, and therefore even in colour this image was practically two tone, and so black and white it is.
