  • The Stone Maidens

    The Stone Maidens

I promised there would be a few more statues, and here are two more… What did these images teach me? I am endlessly fascinated by sculpture (probably because I secretly wish I could sculpt!)

  • Standing Stones

    Standing Stones

Here are a few images of statues that I have taken recently, from several different museums. What did this image teach me? Statues are fascinating, how anyone can make stone look like cloth or skin is beyond me. Also, it is an ancient art form used all over the world. Expect more statues over the…

  • Egg-stinct!

    Egg-stinct!

Here are some baby dinosaurs, just hatching from their eggs… not exactly sure which particular species of dinosaur we are looking at here, perhaps something in the deinonychus family? Although, if that were the case they should probably have a feather or two attached. What did this image teach me? Dinosaurs are just cool. Wait,…

  • Whale Bones

    Whale Bones

This is the skeleton of the largest animal that has ever lived – the Blue Whale. This exhibit is house in the main of the Natural History Museum, in London. What did this image teach me? Blue whales are HUGE! I suppose I already knew that, but to stand beneath one (or at least the…

  • Natural History Museum

    Natural History Museum

Here are a few shots of the Natural History Museum, showing off it’s elaborate architecture. What did these images teach me? Established in 1881, the Natural History Museum is a fine example of high Victorian architecture. Just look at all the intricate elements that have been added. They don’t make buildings like this any more.

  • Thump Thump Bird

    Thump Thump Bird

This is a Southern Cassoway, a very large, rare bird. Think of it like an emu with knives on its feet. What did this image teach me? Patience is a virtue… I’ve been attempting to get a good portrait of this bird for many years, and finally patience paid off.

  • A Few From The Zoo

    A Few From The Zoo

The following is a small set of images from my most recent trip to the zoo, I went there specifically to focus on smaller animals – reptiles and frogs, that sort of thing. What did these images teach me? That every trip to the zoo is different, there’s always something new to see – and…

  • Crested Pigeon

    Crested Pigeon

This bird may look like a common British pigeon suffering from a fashion crisis, but it’s actually a crested pigeon (or Topknot Pigeon if you prefer), found natively in Australia. What did this image teach me? To avoid pigeon poo at all costs. I will say no more on the subject.

  • Big Eyed Bird

    Big Eyed Bird

This is a portrait of a red-necked ostrich. A very large fight less bird, with a very long neck and a pair of large eyes. Essentially everything about the ostrich is big. What did this image teach me? Backlighting really helps add an extra element of interest to portraits – just look at all that…
