Humble Bee

Gathering Pollen
We start March, the month of Natural Scenes, with a humble insect collecting pollen. Insects come in all shapes and sizes. Did you know that the heaviest insect on earth today is the African Goliath beetle, which weighs up to 100g (according to the Guinness World Records at least).

A Spectacled Dove
This bird, with its fantastically dotted wings, and soft “glasses” around the eye, is a real character. As much as a fan of the still image as I am, I wish I’d taken some video of this bird as it hopped slightly clumsily around the rocks.

The Last Leaf
As odd as this may sound, I felt sorry for this solitary leaf as I watched it fall from the tree, only to end up in the mud where it was eventually trodden on by a careless boot-wearing passer by (not me). I’m not sure what that says about me, the leaf, or boot-wearer but…

Leaf Light
Photography means drawing with light, and to me that is summed up in this image – its all about the light, and the lines of the leaves.

A Wooden Heart
The heart drawn onto the side of this tree was actually a bright pink colour. I prefer this monochromatic version, as it allows the shape of the heart and the texture of the tree to dominate, rather than any one colour.

Hawkweed
This is an example of hieracium aurantiacum or “Orange Hawkweed”, which is a dandelion like plant.
