Bright Marigold
This is the first of a small batch of floral based photos, today we have a bright and colourful marigold. What did this image teach me? Marigolds (tagetes) are actually part of the sunflower family! How amazing is that.

The Dahlia

The Grey Poppy
I found this poppy growing in the grounds of Saltram, a National Trust property near Plymouth. What did this image teach me? That poppies are said to represent sleep, peace, and even death (eternal sleep).

I liked the natural frame that this cave entrance created. What did this image teach me? To always consider the edges of the frame when composing a shot.

Through The Yellow
These Pom-Pom like flowers grow in and around the Tomb of the Kings, on the island of Cyprus. What did this image teach me? That yellow is a very interesting colour, and I should probably research what type of flower this is.

The Alium
Though perhaps commonly known to be in the onion family, the word “alium” is actually Latin for garlic. There are many species of alium, including onions, shallots, leeks, chives, and yes… garlic. What did this image teach me? You see that flowering part on the top of the stalk? That shape (small flowers on stalks)…

The White Petals
Another day, another black and white flower photograph (I make no apologies for enjoying some black and white imagery!) What did this image teach me? I really enjoy black and white photography and flowers make for a very good monochromatic subject, especially as we are so used to see them in bright, vibrant colour!

Foxgloves
Foxgloves, or Digitalis if you prefer, are beautiful plants than range in colour from purples, pinks, whites, and yellows. There are 20 species of them.
