Have you ever tried photographing a chess board before? As an opportunist photographer (taking pictures of anything I come across), I have been presented with the ancient game on a few occasions, but I don’t think I’ve ever really mastered the art of capturing chess in an image.
The image below is my latest attempt, it’s a photo of Edward Elgar’s chessboard. It’s a historically important artefact from the life of one of Britain’s great composers. Not that you’d know that by looking at the shot without context – but hopefully what you will see is something that feels like a snapshot mid-game, not just some randomly laid out board pieces – although the King appears to have wandered off somewhere…
