The Old Clock

This very old clock, sitting high up on the wall within Wells Cathedral is thought to be one of the oldest still-working clocks in the world. The clock mechanism has been in use for over 600 years!

What did this image teach me?

The clock face depicts a pre-Copernican Universe, and may very well be the only one of its kind anywhere.

The part of the clock that is still mechanical is wound every day. Other parts (like the knights that joust every 15 minutes above the clock face, have been adapted to run off electricity.

      I can’t read it either.
