Nelson on his Column

Admiral Horatio Nelson died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and around 40 years later this column was put in place, in Trafalgar Square, London to commemorate one of Britain’s national heroes.

What did this image teach me?

The sub-committee set up to organise the funding, design, and construction of Nelson’s Column was headed up by none-other than the Duke of Wellington, another legendary figure in British military history – who also has his own stash of monuments around the country.
