Old Rope

A bit of a nautical-theme for today’s photo… I spotted this old rope hanging around near the harbour in Brixham, Devon. I think there’s something fascinating about rope like this, it has a story to tell…

Old Rope

What did this image teach me?

The phrase “money for old rope” implies making a profit for very little effort. It has that old, Hornblower-era feel about it as a phrase, and yet I believe that it didn’t really enter the English lexicon until the 1930s… much later than expected I would say.
