There’s something appealing about old stone crosses like this… How long has it been standing there? Who made it? These and so many other unanswerable questions spring to mind.

  1. They are Celtic crosses about 1800 years old. They were placed as markers on ancient trackways by itinerant men of the cloth over wild open spaces who were travelling between various religious houses as well as settlements. Not all the markers are crosses, very often plain stones or occasionally monoliths.

  2. Thank you for the details, most appreciated.
