The Ruined Castle

Corfe Castle has a long and thrilling history, from its initial construction under the orders of William the Conqueror (roughly a thousand years ago), through various rebuilds and extensions in the 12th and 13th centuries, to being one of the last royal strongholds during the Civil War (in the 17th century).

At the end of the war, Parliament decided to destroy the castle by blowing it up and thereby created the ruin that still stands today.
