You’ve probably heard of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square, but what about Nelson’s Tomb? Well, here it is… it can be found (alongside the remains of many other famous people) in the crypt beneath St Paul’s Cathedral.
What did this image teach me?
This impressive tomb was originally sculpted by an Italian called Benedetto for Cardinal Wolsey, but he never quite made it inside. A couple of centuries later King George III repurposed it for Admiral Nelson, and positioned it in St Paul’s crypt, directly beneath the dome.
